Who Am I

I have been an instructional designer for technical content for almost 10 years.

I found technology to be a very interesting topic to teach. It requires some engineering mind and hands-on capabilities to figure things out by doing. It also requires a lot of writing and communication, always standing in the learner’s shoes.

My double majors in information system and management, and public policy at Carnegie Mellon University provide both perspectives to me and I have been really enjoying my work.

Why am I starting this Blog?

Well, writing has been my habit. Though, I normally do not write any work-related topics publicly as they may have the potential to be converted to paid content.

Late May this year, I accepted the offer from PingCAP, the company that found TiDB. This is the first time I started to work for an open-source company. Inspired by the open culture of PingCAP, now I feel free and encouraged to share anything about the product I am working on.

I knew nothing about TiDB before the interview. And ramping up the materials in the past month was not an easy task, given the current available resources. So I thought I could share my experience on ramping up TiDB, and anything I picked up along the way, in the whole ecosystem for the distributed world and open source world.

I may laugh at my early posts a year from now on. But hey, that’s the purpose. This is gonna be a journal of my journey with TiDB.
